The Accidentals
by Sarina Bowen

SUMMARY

A YA novel from USA Today bestselling author Sarina Bowen.

Never ask a question unless you’re sure you want the truth.

I’ve been listening to my father sing for my whole life. I carry him in my pocket on my mp3 player. It’s just that we’ve never met face to face.

My mother would never tell me how I came to be, or why my rock star father and I have never met. I thought it was her only secret. I was wrong.

When she dies, he finally appears. Suddenly I have a first class ticket into my father’s exclusive world. A world I don’t want any part of – not at this cost.

Only three things keep me going: my a cappella singing group, a swoony blue-eyed boy named Jake, and the burning questions in my soul.
There’s a secret shame that comes from being an unwanted child. It drags me down, and puts distance between me and the boy I love.

My father is the only one alive who knows my history. I need the truth, even if it scares me.

What I think about this book?

The author says this is her first time writing YA lit, but it's like she was born to do it.

The Accidentals is one of the most heartfelt, deep, bittersweet and beautiful things that I've read this year so far, and I'm thankful with the author for having this book in my life now.

The way the characters were developed, even though you experiment the whole thing from a single point of view, is wonderful! There's no way to read The Accidentals and don't connect with Rachel and her story, to cry with her in sadness, to laugh with her in excitement, to love, and to be afraid... and live through the music in her ears and in her soul.

The Accidentals is full of musical references and analogies, epic quotes and feelings, but also of a light and fresh sense of humor that will keep you smiling the whole time.

This book means a lot to me, because same as Rachel music has been part of my life and I felt that connection with her as she was telling me her story. The evolution of the characters in the book was a beautiful thing to see, as it was Rachel facing her fears, opening her heart and letting herself go.

This isn't an epic love story of two teens, it's the story of a girl who lost someone important in her life and found different kinds of love to help her mend her heart: Friendship, family, music and love. And those are the ingredients that make this book something special and unforgettable.

#CoverReveal THE CHASE (Briar U #1) by Elle Kennedy

The wait is over! The cover is here, and the book is coming!

What? Don't you know what I'm talking about? The Chase by Elle Kennedy, the first installment in the Briar U series (related with the OFF CAMPUS series) is almost here! Join me in the cover reveal for this book! I'll tell you all you need to know! Take a look!

THE CHASE (Briar U, Book 1)
by Elle Kennedy
Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother.
And that his best friend has a crush on me.
And that I just moved in with them.
Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?
I suppose it doesn’t matter. Fitzy has made it clear he’s not interested in me, even though the sparks between us are liable to burn our house down. I’m not the kind of girl who chases after a man, though, and I’m not about to start. I’ve got my hands full dealing with a new school, a sleazy professor, and an uncertain future. So if my sexy brooding roomie wises up and realizes what he’s missing?
He knows where to find me.

#NewRelease A GIRL LIKE LILAC by Victoria L. James

Hi there! Today I wanted to share with you a wonderful new release by Victoria L. James. I discovered this author in a readers group not so long ago, and ever since I read the first book with her name on it a fall in love. Victoria's books aren't just romances, they are a life-changing experience. The way she has to built the characters, pour their feelings through the pages and make you feel the way they feel is absolutely breathtaking.

Now let's talk about her newest release, A GIRL LIKE LILAC, a YA/NA crossover romance that definitely will stole your heart. Take a look.

* * *
Synopsis:

The first time Toby Hunter got arrested for defending Lilac Clarke’s honor, he was only fifteen years old, but he’d loved her from behind his black-rimmed glasses for as long as he could remember.

With a desperate need to protect her from a distance, one arrest turned to two, two soon turning into three, and before Toby knew what was happening, the sleepy village of Southwold was turning against him for daring to stand up for a girl like Lilac.

Beautiful Lilac with her flowers in her hair, her camera in her hands, and her sweet, pink, sugary-lipped kisses.

They could hate him for loving her all they wanted. Toby was a boy who did what was right, not what was easy, and he was always going to grow to be the man willing to give her what she deserved.

Even if that meant losing Lilac forever.

Want to know what I think about this book?

This story is EVERYTHING! For real!!

After a couple cups of coffee and Kleenex boxes I’m finally ready to talk about A GIRL LIKE LILAC. I’m familiar with the author’s writing, but it’s amazing how she always surprises me with her characters. This time wasn’t different.

When I started to read I had no idea where everything was heading. I was into a teenage girl talking about life, magic, photography... and about Toby Hunter, the boy next door. The candid approach was sweet and made me smile. And then I smiled wider when I also had the chance to be into Toby's mind because that's a wonderful place to be.

Every turn of a page in this book was exciting, and I found myself wondering what would happen next. I was totally into the book, living the story through the characters eyes, loving with them, dreaming beside them, and having my heart broken the same way they did. And you know what? It was beautiful (probably because I'm kinda masochist or something).

Lilac and Toby’s love was made of something epic… something magical, so It’s OK to say that there’s magic in this book. A magical kind of love, that’s it. But this book isn’t a fairy-tale. But it isn’t a just tragedy either…  It’s both and more, a comedy, a drama…, just like real life. Lilac and Toby’s book was heartbreaking, but beautiful and intense and… guys, it was perfect! It’s all I can think about this book: that it’s perfect.

As you may probably know by now, I like to design teaser about my latest reads (as the one at the top of this review). Keep scrolling to see more of them.

When I started to read this book I had no idea where the story would get me. It's cool sometimes to be surprised my an author, in this case by two of them, by the characters and how the story seems to be taking a way to suddenly take a turn. That happened to me, and despite my age difference with the main characters I also found this story close and entertaining.

In some books destiny can be awesome, leading the characters in a path of endless love and happiness. Some other times isn't that great. One Small Thing belongs to the second box. Beth and Chase, the main characters, are linked from the start even if they haven't idea. And the universe, being the big joker he is, won't let them forget that connection even for a minute.

At the beginning Beth seemed to be immature and infuriating, and it's precisely that immaturity that lead her to Chase for the first time. Little by little you'll fill in the blanks into Beth story,  and realize she had a reason to act the way she does. But also you'll understand her parents. I reach the point, in some parts of the book, when I said "both of you are right, but also both of you are wrong" and wanted to slap some sense into them, lol.

Then Chase comes to Beth school... his past get exposed, and his future starts to blur.

Guilt is something powerful, but so is love. And while the characters are fighting the feelings they think they shouldn't have, their strength will be tested in more ways that they imagine. The ending wasn't that shocking, though. Despite the odds against Chase and Beth, they found a way to heal one another, and it was beautiful.

This book takes one for the team and talks about some sensible subjects like bullying, shaming, and the different forms of violence, so it's a great excuse to share it with the teens in your home. But it also talks about lost, grief, forgiveness, and friendship. I really loved this book and can't wait for you to read it!

As you may know by now, I really enjoy making teasers about my reads. So I made a few about One Small Thing.

Let's talk about this book:

As I said at the beggining of this post, this book is the third installment in the Sons of Broad series, but it can be read as standalone. I haven't read the previous installments (I'm planning to, tho) but I didn't need it in order to understand the story. The author explain briefly previous situations to keep the reader updated and develop a plot full of suspense and passion.

The lead characters, Alyssa and Kipling, had a rocky start but since the very first page you can feel the tension and the chemistry between them. The way the story is constructed let you spy in their minds, to explore what are they thinking every moment, and it was cool to experiment through them the fear and insecurities, but also the heat and the longing, the passion and the discovery of love.

But this story isn't about romance. Or isn't just about romance. It's also a thriller. Alyssa's sister disappeared and was killed over a decade ago, and she has dedicated her life to bring justice to families in the same situation as hers. She has some clues about her sister's case but that murder wasn't solved. But then she find the connection between her sister's case and a new one, and the hope to discover what happened blooms again.

Kipling discover, soon after his brother's wedding, that his recently found sister has been kidnapped so he'll ask Alyssa's help to find her. But the case is more complicated that they imagined, and the connection between Jade's disappearance and Alyssa's sister will put both of them in danger.

The thrilling situations Kipling and Alyssa will be involved in will lit the fire between them. Even if they try to deny their attraction, that fire will be hot enough to burn their defenses and make them surrender to a passion like no other.

There were a few moments in Broken Promise were I felt the author could have feed the suspense a little more, but the book was pretty cool. I liked the buildup between Kipling and Alyssa, not just the romance between them but how they teamed up to find Kipling's sister and solve Alyssa's case. The villain in the story, The Gentleman, was creepy AF and he had some impressive moments in the book while we discover what drive him to act the way he did. Maybe it was just me, but I kinda wanted more at the ending with him. I felt it was missing something. But that's probably because I didn't read the other books, so don't mind me.

Broken Promise was a fast-paced romance filled with suspense and will engage you in the story from the beginning. It was a great read and can't wait for you to read it.

As you may know by now, I really enjoy making teasers about my reads. So I made a few about Broken Promise.

EXCERPT:

So.  This is the girl William will live or die for.
Puck crouched on the railing of an eighteenth-story balcony, gargoyle-style, and peered into a spacious apartment with only two occupants. William of the Dark and Gillian Shaw.
Soon she would be Gillian Connacht.
Find William. Wed his girl. War with brother.
Now that Puck had found the warrior, his tasks shifted: wed the girl, cart her to Amaranthia, return for the male. Wed. Cart. Return.
Perhaps he should stop staring at the female first? Impossible.
While the demon of Indifference growled with displeasure, Puck drank in Gillian’s dark fall of silken waves and eyes the color of whiskey. Seductive eyes filled with kindling. One day, a male would light her match, and she would burn for him, and him alone.
Flawless golden skin and blood-red lips only added to her appeal, making her the embodiment of a fairy-tale princess.
My princess.
Puck bit his tongue—he should have tasted blood, but because of Indifference, he tasted nothing. There was no denying the truth. Being near the female he planned to wed came with an unexpected complication. Indifferent? Hardly. She roused his most possessive instincts.
Soon she would belong to him. She would be his first and only “mine,” without actually being his.
Must police my thoughts about her, or I’ll ruin everything.
He felt as if he’d been watching Gillian for days, even weeks, as if he knew her, and yet he marveled over every new detail he learned. She was shockingly human, with a gentle spirit and an aura of kindness. Her beguiling smile was infectious, the rare times she revealed it.
Mostly she studied the people and world around her, somehow both present and detached, all while radiating bone-deep sadness.
Too many centuries had passed since Puck had experienced such heartfelt emotion. Before his possession, he might have sympathized with her—whatever her troubles happened to be—and sought to make things better. Now? He would use her without hesitation. He must.
War before a woman.
“I’m needed elsewhere,” William said, and kissed her cheek.
Puck scrutinized his competition for the female’s affections: six-five, solidly built, black hair, blue eyes, handsome if you liked perfection, and soon to be sporting a broken nose if he kissed Puck’s future bride again.
Inner slap. To achieve his goals, Puck needed both Gillian and William to cooperate.
“Hades requires my expertise to obliterate Lucifer’s newest palace,” William continued.
Lucifer. The male’s older brother.
Gillian scowled. Soon she would smile. Around William, her moods tended to change lightning fast, as if she wanted to feel one way, but he made her feel another.
“No, you’re staying here.” Her voice, even laced with a thread of anger, had the power to seduce.
No wonder William had fallen hard for her, and no other.
Puck had actually found the male hundreds of years ago, not long after the Oracles spoke their prophecy. Back then, William had loved no one but himself, forcing Puck to turn his efforts to obtaining the shears of Ananke.
She was the goddess of Bonds, and rumors claimed her shears could sever any spiritual, emotional or physical tie without con- sequence. Of course, rumors also claimed the artifact severed more than the user bargained for.
What was truth? What was lie?
At first, Puck had contemplated using the shears to sever his bond with the demon. The creature had become a part of him, another heartbeat he needed to survive. Ditching him without penalty...could anything be better?
Why else would the Oracles instruct him to find the shears?
But, if using the shears on Indifference had been the answer to Puck’s dilemma, why instruct him to marry Gillian, and recruit William?
What if the shears severed Puck’s connection to Indifference, but also his emotions? He would be in worse shape than before. What if he used the shears and died? The artifact might consider death a blessing rather than a consequence.
Too many risks.
In the end, Puck had opted to stick with his original plan, and work with William.
Help me defeat my brother. In return, I’ll divorce your female and give her back to you.
Puck returned his gaze to the dark-haired Gillian. She had such lush breasts. A flat stomach, and rounded hips. Long legs meant to wrap around a man’s waist—my waist.
His heart beat with renewed determination, as if the organ had come back to life, even though it had never died. As if it said, I’ve been waiting for her.
