The Isn’t You, Baby

I was a pawn.
Weak and someone easily manipulated.
To be played with as he saw fit.
YOU shone light in my now dark world.
It was YOU who made me smile.
For the first time in this game, I had hope.
All because of YOU.
The more powerful pieces on the board, however, were a threat to YOU and me.
They would win at any cost. Two kings ruling with an iron fist.
Allies or opponents, it was hard to tell.
YOU promised to save me.
Told me we would win.
But then I was on the wrong side of the board.
This isn't YOU, baby.
And I don't know what to do.
The game is almost over and I'm counting on YOU.
Warning: This Isn’t You, Baby is a dark romance. Strong sexual themes, excessive drug use, and violence, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. If you are sensitive to dark themes, then this story is not for YOU.
This story will make YOU smile.
This story will make YOU angry.
This story will make YOU crazy.
I hope YOU love it, baby.
This is an intense story filled with love, lies and suspense, narrated in first person and divided in 3 parts. In the first part we meet with Gabriella, a young girl who lost her mom and was adopted by a mean man with a secret agenda. Also we meet Ren, a young man who's so pissed off with the world and with his sister, Hannah (do you remember her? of couse you do), because now he has to keep an eye over Gabriella.
With the time, Ren and Brie started to feel something stronger than friendship, but that feeling was doomed from the start. The rivalry between families add a Romeo-and-Juliet vibe to the novel, the lies and secrecy add suspense, and suddenly, when everything is revealed, a broken hearted Gabriella gets married with a drug lord and flies to Colombia.
But Divan surprised to Gabriella. He wasn't like she was expecting him to be. Slowly she felt in love with him, but happiness wasn't in the cards for her. Not yet.
I loved how this novel was constructed, the suspense, the characters and the narration. I loved that the author add some Spanish dialogues to make more credible her Latin characters, being venezuelan I really appreciated reading a colombian guy saying "Mi amor" and other words of love (also the cuss words were on point). The recreation of the places through the narration was pretty accurate and the plot twists were a total madness. I can't wait to know how this will end.
