Hi there, everyone! Are there RomCom lovers in the house? Because I have a little something for you!
A few days ago, Aimee Brown published her novel The Lucky Dress, previously known as Little Gray Dress, and people all over the world is loving it. Well, I loved it. Isn't it enough for you? lol.
In this post I'll be sharing with you a little about this new release. Are you ready? Then, let's do it!
Emi Harrison hasn’t been feeling particularly lucky lately.
Ever since her ex-fiancée, Jack Cabot,
successfully shattered her heart into a million pieces. She’s managed to avoid
him for a whole year, but all that’s about to change at her brother Evan’s
wedding…
She will have to face Jack, Jack’s
sister, Jack’s parents, and Jack’s new girlfriend: a mean girl that just won’t
quit. What could possibly go wrong?
With her lucky dress on, all bets are
off, and maybe Emi will find her happily-ever-after at last?
Perfect for fans of Anna Bell, Jo
Watson and Sophie Kinsella.

REVIEW:
I first read this book last year. I was enamored of the cover and intrigued with the blurb, so I bought it. The paperback came home a few days before the release day and I was so excited that started to read right away. The story didn't disappoint me, so when I hear the author was republishing the book, adding words and stuff I knew I had to read it.
The narrative rhythm was insane. Chapter after chapter you know more about Emi's past, but also live with her every struggle before her Hanna's wedding. Once you start reading you can stop. The descriptive level was wonderful, how the author pictured the places, the people and the situations make you feel as if you are there with the characters.
I really enjoyed Emi's friendship with Lily and Hannah, her relationship with her twin brother Evan and how she reacted when she saw Jack for the very first time after a long time. I loved how the feelings she had deep inside her fought to reach the surface again. And Jack... oh my! That man is something else.
Side note: I loved Liam too, and how he connected with Emi. His role in the story was pretty cool and I would love to read more about him in the future (pretty please!)
What I didn't like, was Greta (THAT BITCH!!). In fact, I hate that girl. She's bad! like really really bad person. She's self centered, selfish, envious... she's all that you don't need near you. But she's part of the wedding party, so poor Emi has to deal with her. This evil witch has something that was Emi's once, and I'm not talking about a hair band.
Also she will have you wanting to commit murder.
As wedding's day get closer, things start to get weird but fun. There's a drunk Emi having bad luck, some "beauty accidents" and strong revelations. Get ready for the ride!
The Lucky Dress is a fun, sweet and romantic story that celebrates friendship and love, but also has many emotional moments, intrigue and secrets to be discovered. If you're looking for a new book, try this one and thank me later ;)
Wanna know more about this story? Check this note from the author talking about the inspiration
behind Emi as a character.
Emi Harrison is what came out when I
started typing one day. She’s not perfect and I love that the most about her.
She’s what we all are at times, stubborn, insecure, witty, confused, and so
much more all mixed into a big ball of humanity that changes with each life
experience thrown her way.
We’ve all been there, trying to do the
right thing in a situation that is impossible and failing completely through
the entire thing. Our intentions are good, our execution is horrible. She
either tries too hard or not enough. She needed space and Jack gave it to her (because
chasing down the girl who needs to escape isn’t cool either).
Emi does share some qualities with myself
and probably with a lot of people. I can be stubborn and I’ve avoided
situations like the plague at times in my life. Things that were probably only
really ‘situations’ to me and no one else. I’m not a size 2, my hair has really
melted off after too many dye and bleach jobs, I’ve fallen without any
assistance besides gravity, and the words that come out of my mouth sometimes
shock even me.
As a writer we’re told to write what we
know. I did exactly that but I exaggerated it. Each of the characters have a
little of me in them I think because I know myself best. As for Emi, I wanted
her to be a woman everyone knows. The
woman who doesn’t have every detail in her life figured out and isn’t always
happy with herself or her decisions in life because that’s true to life. I
wanted her to have those insecure thoughts because whether you admit it or not,
we’ve all had them. I wanted her to make mistakes because we’ve all made them.
I wanted her to have the observations that we shouldn’t say out loud because we
all have them.
When I re-read Emi’s thoughts I’m happy
with them because she’s exactly as I wanted to create her. An actual flawed
human being that doesn’t do or say the right thing all the time. The fact that
some readers don’t like her is exactly what should happen. Not everyone will
love you as a person or a character and that’s OK. That means she’s real. I
love Emi and I think she was the perfect character for this story.
